Clear desk, clear mind: clearing clutter

DECLUTTERING WORK SPACES.
  • keep your desk as clear as possible. Keeping only what you are working with on it helps you to concentrate on the task in hand.
  • File papers away once you have finished working with them. Don't let them pile up on the floor.
  • When papers arrive on your desk, decide straightaway what to do with them: act on them now; file them for future use; or throw them away.
  • Keep your waste bin by your desk and open your post over it. Anything you don't need can go straight into the bin.
  • Make time to go through your filed documents and papers regularly. Throw away any that are out of date or no longer needed.
FOCUS YOUR MIND
  • keep a candle burning on your desk to focus the mind.
  • a few drops of bergamot or pine oil are energizing and uplifting. Rosemary oil helps concentration - but don't use it if you are pregnant or suffer from epilepsy.
BOOST YOUR CAREER
  • Place your desk so you sit with your back to a solid wall with a good view of the door and the window.
  • A desk lamp on one side helps focus attention - in the top left hand corner to improve finances.
  • Fresh cut flowers stimulate mental activity and cleanse the atmosphere.
  • Put your telephone on the right to make the people you call more helpful. If you are left-handed, keep your address book on your right to gain similar effect.
  • Keep essential reference books on your left-hand side - the knowledge area.
  • If your work is creative, have a rounded desk. If your work involves figures or is very precise a rectangular desk is better but ideally still with rounded corners.
  • Try to use a rectangular briefcase of handbag to make you more inclined to complete projects.
  • Your computer should be centred at the back of your desk. This area governs fame and recognition. Behind it, put something on the wall to remind you what you want to achieve - a photograph, newspaper cutting, or a collage of work goals.
  • Place something on the left hand side to remind you of the spiritual aspect of your life. A small statue, a framed picture, or a beautiful stone.
  • Don't overload your desk with pictures of family - you will be distracted. But a couple of photos can sit in the middle and top right-hand corner.

SLEEP SOUNDLY - BEDROOM SANCTUARY

FENG SHUI FOR BETTER BEDROOMS

- Clear out all the clutter from your bedroom - and keep it out.
Psychologists point out that if your environment is cluttered, you mind will be unable to
relax.
You will subconsciously be worried about the mess and what needs doing.

- Try to avoid working in your bedroom. If this is impossible, place your desk or workspace
behind a screen, so you cannot be reminded of work while you are in bed.

- Turn out wardrobes and cupboards regularly - donate unworn or unwanted clothes to charity
shops or dress agencies.

- Place your bed so you can see the door - ideally diagonally opposite the door. Do not have
your headboard backing onto a window or doorway

- Keep furniture, such as tables and chairs, soft and rounded - avoid sharp edges or points.

- Avoid big mirrors. Keep mirrors small and preferably round or oval. Do not have a mirror
opposite your bed - it may cause insomnia or bad dreams.

- Choose colours wisely - include pinks and reds for romance, soft blues for relaxation.
Cushions and candles can be bright pinks and reds, but always avoid dark, heavy colours.

Transform your bedroom into a refuge of calm and tranquillity and you will find you sleep more deeply. which, in turn, will allow you to awake refreshed and full of energy. By following simple rules from fengshui, the ancient Chinese art of placement, you will be able to relax after a tough day's work

* BOOKS & ORNAMENTS
Keep bookshelves out of the bedroom - they distract the mind with the weight of all those
books! And keep any ornaments restrained as well - a few well-chosen ones are far better
than a whole collection that makes the bedroom busy and gathers dust.

COLOURS - Black + Red = Success

The power suit
When you need to command respect and attention
choose classic black suit.

Black gives you confidence and conveys power. However, combine it with other colours for maximum impact - otherwise it can make you seem aloof, unapproachable, and intimidating.
Of course, that might be the desired effect but if you really want to head for the top,
combine black suit with red accessories

Standard alternatives to black suit are not so successful.
Grey signifies cool, calm and in control but that you are not a major league player.

Brown can make you appear rather fixed and static. It is useful if you feel nervous and need security but avoid it if you need to turn on the power.
